Softletter is constantly providing you insight into industry trends and the pulse of change. In 2006, we released the first extensive SaaS report covering key metrics such as customer retention, infrastructure. In 2007, we hosted the first SaaS industry conference. In 2009 at our Chicago conference. Softletter Managing Editor Rick Chapman gave the first presentation on what would later be called Big Data by explaining how SaaS firm were in position to measure every aspect of customer interaction with their system. Years before large research companies such as Gartner and IDG, Softletter was exploring how the SaaS Revolution was changing both software and society.
Now, we’ve begun analyzing and writing about the next great movement that’s going to supplant the SaaS model, the drive to create and deploy Device Independent Software Workspaces (DISW). Born of the SaaS Revolution, DISWs are the next and inevitable step in the evolution of technology industry. Increasingly, software subscribers and users do not understand or want to deal with endless desktop operating configurations and updates and unending complexity. The major application providers are determined to abandon the desktop permanently. Soon, devices will become simply spokes on personal and business computing hubs that exist permanently in the cloud, unchained from any particular device or OS.
